In 1983 when Sam was assigned to 94 Engine on Seneca Av., in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx out of probie school, I was a 17 y.o. regular "buff" from northern NJ, privileged to be allowed to hang out at this firehouse. I got to know Sam pretty well. He always made me feel special, with a kind word & conversation. He made a great impression on me and is someone I will never forget. I remember he transferred to Ladder 4 a # of years later... time and life move on. So, so saddened to hear that he was one of the members who made the supreme sacrifice that day. Of course I attended his funeral/memorial in Peekskill.
