Geroge and I were working on loading the new rescue truck at JFK airport. We got a call from PA wildlife that they had dolphin stuck in the Bursen basin. We respond and did find the dolphin behind the oil boom line. We talked with PA wildlife, and they said it was back there for two days and that they had called animal rescue who suggested they try to get the dolphin out from behind the boom line. George and I moved the boom line so it could swim out, but it stayed where it was. George decided to inflate our new rescue raft and he would put on his dry suit to try to move the dolphin out. George goes in with the raft and he can't find the dolphin. He keeps calling asking if I see the dolphin and the response was no. He leans over the front of the raft looking and all of a sudden, the dolphin pops up right in George's face. It took one look a George turned and swam right into the bulkhead. We recovered the dolphin and animal rescue came and said the dolphin was full of parasites and were not able to save it. The next morning when I came to work, I brought a stuff animal dolphin to put in the cabin of the truck. George went crazy because I was so upset amount not saving the dolphin and threw it out. Everyday someone would put a new stuffed animal dolphin in the cab until George gave up and the dolphin was the trucks mascot.
